In Damascus lives a struggling young couple with their two children.

This family was offered free accommodation however in return they have to maintain the apartment, pay all of the bills and fix anything they need repairing. This family has been living under this arrangement in this apartment for over 11 years.

They have done a lot of work to the apartment; they have painted the walls as per the agreement. The owner of the apartment who lives in the USA has now decided to start charging this struggling family rent being a yearly payment of $1,000.00. Unfortunately, this couple only make $50.00 a month combined which is 200,000.00 SYP. They generally use this money to cover their basic essentials (food, school fees etc).

Their family and friends have tried to help but paying $1,000.00 in one payment is impossible with their financial circumstances however if they do not pay this fee they will have no choice but to be evicted and live on the street.
